More on Pigeons

Yesterday, on the way to Bixby Village golf course LMA and I drove by the site of the dead rock dove. Three live rock doves were pecking at the asphalt in the middle of the road, none of which seemed to take much notice of us, nor of the mini-van speeding toward us. I stopped the Jeep, and the mini-van stopped, too. The birds didn’t move to the curb until LMA stood up and hollered obscenities at them.

All bets are off regarding the dead rock dove noted previously. Fresh evidence suggests it was run over by a mini-van or SUV rather than falling dead from the sky.

At the course, we managed to play seven holes before it got dark. My best effort was a five on the par 4 fourth, not counting mulligans and a lost ball. I landed a 70 yard wedge shot, from behind a pine tree, eight feet from the hole, but needed two putts to finish.

LMA struggled at first as she tried to match my distance, but improved later when she took it easy and went for accuracy.

Teeing off on the course is not the same as teeing off at the driving range. The only thing worse than my shots was my language after making them. We’re going back to the range tonight for more practice, and to work on our callouses.

We’ll drive by the liquor store on the way and see what the rock doves are up to.
