Forgot One

Forgot to mention in the comment about forgetting that I suspect that the general anaesthesia offered before major surgery doesn’t actually block out consciousness and render the patient inert. Instead, the drugs force the patient to lie still and to later forget the trauma, like Caribbean Island zombies ethno-botanized into acquiesence and stupor. Afterward, except for the bandages and the pain, it is as if the cutting never occurred. But imagine the inner-life of the patient during the procedure.
If the horror is forgotten later, was it ever really experienced?
I’ve never been under general anaesthesia (nor will I be anytime soon, God willing), and I’ve never asked too many questions of anyone who has. I haven’t even asked the Internet about it. Worrying about my suspicions and worrying about things out of my control is what I do.
