Last week I put the tabletop together. Yesterday I removed the clamps and sanded out the mill marks and glue splotches. I went up to 220 grit with the orbital sander. I’ll make another pass or two on the way up to 320 grit.

Gluing up. The mahogany planks are 74 inches long and 16 inches wide. The plyboo piece in the center is 72 inches long and 10 inches wide. I’ll trim four inches off the length and one inch off each side to wind up at 70″x40″.

Out of the clamps. See the glue splotches and mill marks? The red arrows are there to help line up the planks. The blue arrows on the other plank don’t show well in the picture. The boards are joined with a simple butt joint. I added a few biscuits (under the arrows) to keep the planks aligned and flat during glue-up.

Sanded and almost ready for finish.
Next up? The three table supports and the three feet.
